Angry Nigerian fans have voiced their displeasure after the Super Eagles were on Wednesday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, eliminated from next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
They also faulted the tactics of Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, saying he had no game plan throughout the qualifiers for the 2015 AFCON.
A cross section of those interviewed said they were pained by the fact that the Eagles struggled all through the qualifiers in a group adjudged fair for Nigeria. They traced their lacklustre performance to the quality of the Nigerian bench.
The African champions came back from 2-0 down to snatch a 2-2 draw in added time against Group A leaders Bafana Bafana, but it was not enough to help them qualify and defend their title in Equatorial Guinea nest year.
“These Eagles are nothing to write home about; they are the worst Nigerian team I have ever seen since I have been watching the Eagles play. The players feel they are too big to play for the country. They should be disbanded,” a fan who identified himself simply as Uduak, said at the Uyo International Stadium, immediately after the game on Wednesday.
