Popular comedian, Alibaba, born Atunyota Akporobomerere, is reputed as the godfather of comedy in Nigeria.
The 49-year-old entertainer, who hails
from Warri in Delta State, is about the richest comedian in Nigeria,
having overcome the robust encounter he once had with poverty early in
his life.
Among the fleet of cars in Alibaba’s
garage is the 2013 model of Mercedes Benz SL500 class, which reportedly
cost him about N20m.

The SL class has maintained its place as a
long-standing icon. The roadster, an open two-seat car, offers a
healthy dose of luxury, as well as a balance of performance and comfort
that is difficult to match.
In terms of overall interior design, the
SL is one of very few automobiles that masterfully blend rich, genuine
materials, excellent performance, craftsmanship and industry-leading

The car’s competitors include Audi R8
Spyder, BMW 6 Series Convertible, Porsche 911 Cabriolet, Aston Martin V8
Vantage, Ferrari California, Jaguar XK and Maserati GranTurismo
convertibles. Yet, the SL class is still such a compelling automobile
because it seems to blend grand touring, luxury and being a sports car
better than some of its competitors can manage.
Performance
The rear-wheel-drive is powered by a new
4.6-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 429 hp and 516 pound-feet of
torque. Combined with automatic start/stop technology and a more
fuel-efficient seven-speed automatic transmission, it earns an
Environmental Protection Agency-estimated 17 miles per gallon in the
city, 25mpg on the highway and 20mpg combined. In Edmunds testing, the
SL moved from 0-60 miles per hour in an impressive 4.4 seconds.
Features
The car is a two-seat convertible with a retractable hardtop that is also available in SL550, SL63 AMG and SL65 AMG trims.
The car comes standard with 18-inch
wheels (19-inch available as optional), LED running lights, active
bi-xenon headlamps, dual-zone automatic climate control, sun-reflective
leather upholstery, power wind deflector, auto-dimming rear-view and
driver-side mirrors.
Also available are Telematics and
entertainment, which are covered by a hands-free Bluetooth-enabled
telephone system, navigation system, real-time traffic, voice controls
and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system with a
six-CD/DVD changer, satellite radio, digital music storage and an
iPod/USB media interface.
For added comfort and convenience,
Mercedes also offers keyless ignition/entry, a glass roof panel with
adjustable transparency, a premium leather seating package, ventilated
seats, dynamic and massaging seats, plus the AirScarf system that gently
blows warm air on the neck.
Safety
Standard safety features on the SL class
include side, head and knee airbags for both driver and passenger. It
also has stability and traction control, antilock brakes with
pre-collision/automatic braking system, an automated pre-collision
system, which tightens belts, adjusts the seats and even rolls up the
windows if it senses an imminent roll-over, and a sophisticated drowsy
driver alert system.
Other safety options include rear-view
camera, front and rear parking sensors that scan available spaces and
enable automated parking, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist.
To lower the top and fold it back into
the trunk takes less than 20 seconds and in spite of being a convertible
car, it offers cargo capacity and storage. With the top up, it holds
10.2 cubic feet of luggage and 7.2 cubic feet when the top is stowed.
Its ‘Easy Pack’ feature allows access to luggage even with the top
stowed in the trunk.
Driving Impressions
The turbocharged vehicle offers
effortless, seemingly endless power. Its transmission is perhaps one of
the most intelligent and responsive in its class while its adaptive
suspension is an industry standard when it comes to composure and
compliance.
In different driving environments,
whether along the coast with the top down or racing up a mountain road,
the SL manages to put smiles on the faces of its users.
The good: Comfortable
