| Miss Insurance |
Background
My name is Funmilola Ogunsola. I am Miss
Insurance 2014. I was born to a close-knit family of four children and
we were raised by our father and grandmother. I studied Mass
Communication at the Igbinedion University. I have a Master’s degree in
Fashion Management from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. I
am currently a marketing executive at Staco Insurance Plc.
Miss Insurance competition
I was spurned on because of the belief
and trust which my company and family had in me. I was chosen by my
company to represent them at the Miss Insurance Beauty Pageant Dance
2014/15. The competition simply chooses a lady who will become the
face/ambassador of the insurance industry. This year, only eight of us
qualified. The platform was established to promote insurance awareness
and enlighten Nigerian citizens about the benefits of insurance. The
competition was keenly contested. All the contestants worked hard. My
major challenge during the contest was the time factor. Having to get
dressed in less than five minutes for a prospective beauty queen was
almost unrealistic at first.
Parental blessing
I had the full support and blessing of my parents and siblings. I guess they knew I would come out victorious.
Career and pageant
Truth is, the two roles work
hand-in-hand, but the hustle and bustle of the country does not allow it
flow. I am an insurance marketer by profession and I go to the field
every weekday. This also applies to the office of Miss Insurance. I plan
my week over the weekend and I have learnt to prioritise both roles
perfectly.
Projects
I have initiated a pet project called
Teens for Insurance (T4I) to sensitise and prepare the emerging
generation on the imminent eventualities of life. It is also designed to
initiate early learning experience on the practice of insurance and its
benefits for youths across secondary schools in Nigeria. This programme
is an educational initiative for students and will involve seminars,
inter-school quiz competition, which will be in line with the study of
insurance.
Fashion
My sense of fashion is spontaneous. My
style is tasteful and subtle. Style, to me simply means comfort, and
exuding confidence. The most expensive fashion item in my wardrobe are
diamonds. I love diamonds and it is my best friend. Designer labels?
Yes, I love them and my favourite designers are luxury brands such as
Dolce & Gabbana; Armani; Balenciaga; Gianni Versace and Giuseppe
Zanotti.
Nigerian fashion
It has evolved nicely. But I believe that
fashion designers still need to work harder and promote African
concepts. This is a must because we need to purchase fashion pieces that
are timeless.
Fitness
I eat healthily. I exercise at least four
times weekly and indulge in cardio, stretches and squats regularly. If
there is no pain, then, there is no gain.
Staying ahead of challenges
The saying, information is the breakfast
of winners’ is my mantra in life. I do a lot of quality research because
it keeps me ahead of the game.
A scandal-free reign
It takes the grace of God for pageant
queens to stay scandal-free and outstanding. I think this may be
possible if a queen remains true to herself, have a genuine heart and
sincerely love oneself. After my reign? I believe only God will lead me
to my next juncture. I am sure I will know when the time comes.
