Group kicks against Jega’s sack

The Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS) has condemned the purported plan to remove the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, from office through a compulsory terminal leave.

In a release signed by its president, Mashood Erubami, and made available to journalists in Ibadan Friday, VOTAS warned that the removal of Jega at this juncture “is most unpopular, unacceptable and might be the last straw that will break the camel’s back”.
He said the preposition is suspicious in view of every step taken by the Federal Government signposting a hidden agenda for rigging, election disruption, truncation of the democratic process and tenure elongation.
“As a consequence, Nigerians might be annoyed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government into engaging in self-help to remove their destinies from the hands of political jobbers who are experimenting with various strategies, including the abrupt removal of Jega from office, and, consequently, this could instigate serious chain reactions, which might be very difficult to halt.
