Why Nigerian politics is deadly – Rotary

Avarice and insatiable lust for power and money by some politicians have been identified as some of the reasons for the manic tussle for presidential power and cause of death of some
of the former office holders.
Former chieftain of National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Adeoye Adegoke, stated this in a chat with Synday Independent recently.
According to Adegoke, who is also president of Isolo Rotary Club, were service of the populace the major goal, politicians would not throw all care to the wind, using every arsenal at their disposal, including violent means, to gain power and consolidate their stay in office. This is why the country lacks genuine politicians, he said.
His words: “We can’t have true politicians in this country. Nobody bothers to ask, why is our presidency (Heads of State) claiming lives? People like Aguiyi Ironsi, Abacha, Abiola died; why? It is because of our politicians’ lust for money; they are not about service.”
