EPZ: Ijaw youths postpone plans to shut down oil installations

The Ogulagha Clan Youths Association (OCYA), has stated that they cannot take any action now until it becomes clear to them that the relevant government authorities fails to recognise them as host to the project like their Itsekiri and Gbaramatu brothers.

OCYA, it would be recalled, recently threatened to shut down all oil and gas facilities in their kingdom over alleged non-inclusion of their communities as stakeholders in the $16 billion Ogidigben Gas City project.
Speaking exclusively with Sunday Independent in Warri, Delta State, OCYA Public Relations Officer, Ebikeme Abanre, said the youths are still hoping that the Federal Government will listen to their legitimate request to avoid disruption of oil and gas production activities in their kingdom.
But, Tare Torugben, insisted that all this everyday threat by one group or the other does not make sense any more as not all Ijaw communities are located near the project.
He added: “Because Gbaramatu Ijaw are agitating to be included in the project does not mean that other Ijaws living far away from the project site should also agitate, it amounts to making mockery of the whole Ijaw argument”.
However, Itsekiri youth activist, Abraham Inone, is of the opinion that threat or no threat, President Goodluck Jonathan should come and inaugurate the project for the benefit of all Nigerians, especially the teaming jobless youths of the region.
